New Feature: Freezer Meals

Freezer cooking is the process of cooking multiple meals at one time and placing them in the freezer for a later date. This technique allows you to maximize your food prep time because you are only doing it once for multiple meals, and gets you ahead of schedule with meals that are ready to eat in your freezer.

The new Freezer Meal feature in Plan to Eat will allow you to cook meals, freeze them, and Plan to Eat will keep track of the meals in your freezer as you drag those meals onto your planner. It’s a cool little feature that allows you to better use the food that you have on hand, and gives you all of the advantages of getting ahead of schedule by freezer cooking.

Here’s how it works:

  • I love the freezer feature, but I have a question. I’m creating several weekly menu plans for all of 2015. So for example the Week 1 and Week 3 meal plan for each month would be the same rotation of meals, and the Week 2 and Week 4 meal plan would be a different rotation of meals. I like to do a few weeks of mass cooking so I’m set for several months or a year of freezer meals.

However when I drag and drop the Week 1/Week 3 meal plan into the appropriate places on the calendar, it doesn’t deduct the meals from my freezer inventory (even though the meals in the meal plan are also in the freezer).

Maybe I’m doing something wrong. But I’ve tested it a few times to no avail. Am I missing something? Thanks

    • Hey Tammy,
When you make a menu with meals that you want to come from the freezer, double check that the recipes that you plan for that specific menu are set as freezer meals. They should be subtracting from your freezer if they are all set as freezer meals before you make the menu. If it does not, you can go into the freezer section and manually edit the number of meals that are left there. We are looking into this to make sure that it is working correctly for you. If you have any additional questions for us please send us an email to support@plantoeat.com! Thank you!
