The Problem with Online Recipes (And What To Do About It)

I love recipes. I’m deeply grateful to every food blogger who’s ever shared their grandma’s secret sauce, their one-pot weeknight dinner, or their go-to comfort food. But…I also have some gripes.

Should You Follow The Dirty Dozen List?

It’s troubling to think of the fruits and vegetables we buy each week as somehow being unsafe. And organic produce is typically more expensive, so switching over could be tough on your budget. So should you follow these lists?

Too Tired to Cook After Dinner? Here’s How to Make Dinner Happen Anyway

If you’ve ever felt that way, here are a few realistic strategies for getting dinner on the table when you’re running on empty (without relying on takeout or the slow cooker).

Prep Notes Just Got An Upgrade

Before, prep notes were only static reminders. Now, they’re fully interactive, so you can create a prep schedule that works for you without having to open each recipe.

Program Updates

The development team is working hard to make updates, squash bugs, and add new features to both the desktop and mobile app versions of Plan to Eat!

App:

This month, we released version 3.5.2:

  • You can now rename, reschedule, and remove Prep Notes associated with planned recipes and frozen recipes. Note: After modifying planned prep notes, they will not automatically move when the planned recipe is moved.
  • We fixed a bug in recipe yield scaling that caused fraction calculations to return NaN.
  • We fixed a bug that was affecting recipe imports from Chrome on iOS.
  • We fixed a bug that was affecting iOS recipe imports while the app was not running in the background.
  • We resolved some minor styling issues affecting newer Android versions.
  • We fixed a bug that was causing the app to crash for some users.

Desktop:

  • We updated the meal planner so you can rename, reschedule, and remove automatically planned Prep Notes associated with your planned recipes and frozen recipes. If you make any changes to your planned prep notes, they will no longer automatically move with your planned recipe.
  • We updated the bulk edit feature so you can limit your selection to prep notes only, and event types (like recipes, ingredients, and notes) are now highlighted in the selection mode.
  • We updated our recipe importer so it’s much more successful with recipes on Facebook, and it should now find the correct image on TikTok recipes.

Highlighted Reviews

“Perfect for streamlining meal planning. I started by adding just a one week base of my easiest go to meals and then slowly add one or 2 each time I meal plan. In 3 months it’s already an invaluable easy to use collection of our best meals. So easy to plan reschedule and shop. Already has saved me hours of time and reduced so much mental load.”
