We’re only a few weeks away from the end of Summer and official beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Maybe you’re bemoaning the shorter days and cooler weather, or you’re rejoicing for sweaters and the return of pumpkin spice. Either way, seasonal transitions are a great time to reevaluate your meal plans and swap in new recipes. Mix in a few warm, comforting meals, but don’t forget about the fresh late-season produce too!

We put together five meal planning personality types, and we think you’re going to recognize yourself in at least one of them.
#140: You Need a Meal Planning System (Not Just a Meal Plan)
This week we’re talking about building a meal system, which goes beyond the weekly task of picking recipes and making a grocery list. A meal plan is the action. A meal system is the infrastructure behind it, and having one makes everything work so much better. The goal is to help you figure out what your system can look like based on your real life.

Extras
August’s most popular recipe imports:
- Creamy Cottage Cheese Pasta from Skinny Taste (two months in a row!)
- Spicy and Creamy Cashew Chicken Salad from NYT Cooking
- Roasted Zucchini Orzo from The Plant Based School
- Nicole’s Chopped Tacos from AllRecipes (Instagram)
- Gurkensalat (German Cucumber Salad) from EatingWell
Program Updates
The development team is working hard to make updates, squash bugs, and add new features to both the desktop and mobile app versions of Plan to Eat!
App:
We’re retiring the beta program, and next week everyone will have the opportunity to test the new Version 4 of the app! More information to come very soon.
Desktop:
- The “Already Imported” badge and duplicate detection now recognize a recipe page even when its web address is written slightly differently (for example, with or without “www.” or a trailing slash).
- Fixed some ingredients showing wildly inflated calories caused by a unit-conversion bug in imported USDA data.
- Sending your list to grocery delivery no longer shows duplicates. When items are grouped on your list, the grocery app now sends the single combined item you see, instead of that item plus each one tucked underneath it.
- The sparkle animation shown while AI is working no longer sits on a white box in dark mode.
Highlighted Reviews
“This is the one. I spent years-YEARS!-trying other apps. But compared to this one, they sucked. Plan to Eat makes it simple and easy to add and import recipes from a wide variety of formats (INCLUDING PRINTED COOKBOOKS), to adjust the number of servings for recipes, to handle the grocery list and to share it, and the way they have the staples list set up actively helps you not to forget things. ”
“This app saves me so much time in menu planning. It is so easy to download recipes from Pinterest or Instagram or any other place. Easily makes my shopping list for me. I could not live without it.”
