We’re back with another episode in our Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat series, and this week it’s all about Acid! Acid is the unsung hero of flavor – it brightens, balances, and brings depth to your dishes. In this episode, we dive into the science of acid in cooking (and how it shocked us!), how it affects the color and texture of foods, and why it’s called salt’s “alter ego”.

Program Updates
The development team is working hard to make updates, squash bugs, and add new features to both the desktop and mobile app versions of Plan to Eat!
App:
This month, we released version 3.4.9:
- We now allow users to limit access to their photo library.
- We fixed an issue with editing prep notes in recipes.
- We fixed the UI minimization for shopping list action buttons.
Desktop:
- Recipe measurements are now displayed in familiar kitchen units. For example, “2 1/16 cups” displays as “1 cup + 1 tablespoons + 1/8 teaspoon”. This makes recipes easier to follow by using combinations of standard measurements like cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons.
- We updated the “Print Shopping List” feature so it looks better on smaller screens and remembers your print options when selecting the “Group Items by Store” option.
- We updated planned and frozen recipes to allow scaling with fractional serving sizes like 0.5 and 1.5. Previously, only whole numbers were allowed – entering 0.5 would automatically change the servings to 1.
- We launched a Recipe Clipper Extension for Safari!
